What is international recruitment for medical laboratory scientists, and how does it work?

MLS Global will find international candidates for your laboratory from the Philippines and sponsor them directly via an H1B Visa. For the first three years these candidates will work as employees of MLS Global in your laboratory. After that time period they convert to being direct employees of your organization.

How does MLS Global ensure the retention of international staff for 6 years?

Candidates will sign an initial 3-year work agreement to work for MLS Global at your laboratory in exchange for MLS Global sponsoring their H1B Visa. The candidates would then sign an additional 3-year work agreement with the hospital to be a direct employee in exchange for the hospital sponsoring their green card. MLS Global guides hospitals on how to go about sponsoring green cards for candidates. We also offer a program in which MLS Global handles the green card sponsorship which ensures retention for 3 years.

Why does MLS Global have an option where the client is responsible for Green Card Sponsorship?

The reason that we have this as an option for clients is that by you providing this sponsorship it allows you to double your retention period of these candidates resulting in a minimum retention period of 6 years, for clients that choose this route we have resources available to you in order to make this a seamless process.

Why do candidates want green cards?

By having a green card, candidates become citizens of the United States. This is every candidate’s goal and allows them to accomplish their American dream.

Why does MLS Global only partner with non-profit hospitals?

Our immigration strategy is based on immigration rules set forth by the U.S Government that give special advantages to hospitals that are non-profits. Laboratories that are for profit have to abide by different rules when utilizing international recruitment.

How long does it take until candidates arrive to work in my laboratory?

On average we can get candidates into your laboratory within 4 – 6 months of engaging with MLS Global. However, immigration is very fluid, that timeline can increase or decrease based on current immigration conditions.

Will my hospital be involved in the initial sponsorship and relocation?

We will only need your organization to supply minimal documents for immigration, you will have very little involvement as we handle the bulk of immigration work. We also help candidates meet all regulatory requirements before we orchestrate their move across the world to work in your laboratory. You simply have to wait for their arrival.

Does MLS Global help with assimilation?

MLS Global has a program to ensure that candidates will have all the resources to be set up for success once they arrive to the U.S. Within a few days of their arrival, they will be set up with bank accounts, housing, transportation, along with all the other necessities so they can focus on being successful in your laboratory.

Will it be hard for these candidates to culturally assimilate in my lab?

As long as your current staff is welcoming and accepting of them there are very little to no issues. These candidates all speak fluent English, but they may quiet at the start as they perfect their English-speaking skills.

What kind of credentials do these staff have?

Our candidates all come with a minimum of 5 years of experience, along with ASCP certification. We can find candidates that are generalist or specialized in departments such blood bank, microbiology, or histotechnology.

What if a candidate doesn’t work out?

In the case this happens MLS Global will handle all regulatory responsibilities associated with terminating a candidate. MLS Global has a performance improvement period where employees are given 30 days to improve. If employees do get terminated the client will no longer be billed once they are removed from the worksite.

How does pricing work?

There is no upfront fee and candidates work on an hourly bill rate for their 3 year contract working at MLS Global. See our video for an explanation on pricing here:

What makes the Philippines a good source for medical laboratory scientists?

The Philippines has a tremendous talent pool of Medical Laboratory Scientist that work in hospitals with similar equipment and standards compared to laboratories in the U.S.

How much does MLS Global pay candidates and what kind of benefits do they get?

MLS Global pays candidates’ wages that are similar to your internal staff, we do this to ensure pay equity in the laboratory and this is a great way to increase retention. Candidates receive a generous PTO plan from MLS Global to allow them to take trips back when needed. In addition candidates receive a competitive benefits package as well.

Does MLS Global provide ongoing support after the technologists are placed in our lab?

Yes, we are always in touch with our candidates to make sure they are successful inside and outside of the laboratory from day 1 and onward. We like to have quarterly meetings with supervisors to ensure they are being successful in the laboratory.
